OLA Adeogun and Art dela Cruz powered San Beda to a 79-57 victory over the Philippine Under-18 youth team on Wednesday to stay undefeated in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Adeogun had 19 points and nine rebounds while Dela Cruz added 18 points and 12 rebounds as the reigning NCAA titlist Red Lions (2-0) showed their might to gain a share of the lead with Far Eastern University in Group B.
The Under-18 team remained winless after two games but gained valuable experience before plunging into action in the Seaba championship set next month in Sabah, Malaysia.
“We really wanted to play well today due to the fact that we want the RP Team to learn something from this game,” San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez said. “At least, they can carry this in the future.”
Adeogun and Dela Cruz led a 13-4 Red Lions third-quarter windup that sparked the rout after the Nationals overhauled a big lead and came within four points, 42-38.
“We played tough so that they will be ready for Seaba. Hopefully, it will help them a lot,” Fernandez said.
Baser Amer had 11 points, six assists, and two steals for San Beda.
Ranbill Tongco, who will play for the Red Lions in the coming NCAA season, had 15 points, while Thirdy Ravena had 14 points in his first Filoil game with the youth team.
