Canlas leads comeback vs UST as San Beda completes Filoil elims sweep

Red Lions keep perfect record intact entering the summer tourney playoffs

SAN Beda pulled off a thrilling 75-73 come-from-behind victory over University of Santo Tomas to complete its seven-game eliminations sweep in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup on Friday.

James Canlas completed the fightback after trailing by 10, 40-30 at halftime to head into the playoffs as the top seed of Group A.

The Fil-Canadian sophomore fired 21 points, three assists, and two rebounds to lead the Red Lions.

Donald Tankoua tallied a double-double with his 19 points and 14 rebounds, as rookie Ralph Penuela had himself eight points, three boards, and two dimes in the win.

San Beda will now head into the quarterfinals against Group B four-seed FEU, with the playoffs set to begin on Monday.

Beninese forward Soulemane Chabi Yo topped the Growling Tigers with 24 points and 12 rebounds, as super rookie Mark Nonoy had 15 points and five boards in the losing effort.

UST exited the summer tourney with a 2-5 win-loss card.
