SAN Beda whipped an undermanned Centro Escolar University, 80-58, for its third straight win Friday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.
Donald Tankoua anchored the Red Lions with 16 points and four rebounds, while Calvin Oftana chipped in 12 points, seven boards, and two assists.
Clint Doliguez and Damie Cuntapay both had nine in the victory as they made their return in the summer tourney from their Las Vegas training.
San Beda shook off a rusty first half as it poured 29 points in the third frame to grab a 65-44 lead entering the payoff period.
"We're trying to challenge our players. I did challenge the boys and were just really lucky that CEU is not 100-percent, not a complete team," said coach Boyet Fernandez as the Red Lions battled a Scorpions squad reeling from shedding off seven key players following allegations of game-fixing.
"Again, a win is a win and the boys stepped up."
Jerome Santos carried CEU (2-3) with 14 points and six rebounds, as Franz Diaz had 12 points and four boards in the defeat.
Senegalese big man Maodo Malick Diouf got a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in the outing.
