DEFENDING champion San Beda will be parading its young turks its Team B squad representing the Red Cubs for the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League this coming week.
San Beda coach JB Sison explained 14 players will have their graduation during the NBTC week including Evan Nelle, who recently committed to stay with the Red Lions for college.
“Nagkasabay sa graduation ng Team A. Eh ang Team A, 14 ang gagraduate. Nag-decide na lang ‘yung school na i-field ‘yung Team B,” said Sison.
Sison will instead turn to its players who will potentially make it to next year’s line-up in the NCAA, led by Batang Gilas members Joshua Lazaro, Yukien Andrada, and Justine Sanchez.
All three are part of the pool for the Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship with Andrada being the younger brother of former La Salle cager Yutien Andrada.
Sison said playing in the NBTC will be a great experience for the three Batang Gilas pool members.
“Si Lazaro is born 2002 and we are competing against (born) 1998. Malaki ang potential kasi katulad last year, pinanalo niya lahat from Passerelle to BBI [Breakdown Basketball Invitationals]. Very promising kaya lang ‘yung age niya, masyado pang bata,” said Sison.
San Beda is seeded seventh in the tournament.
