SAN Beda crushed University of the East, 94-72, to start its title retention bid on a bright note on Thursday in the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Sophomore AC Soberano led the way for San Beda with 19 points, hitting five triples. Dan Sara scored 17, rookie Davon Potts had 13 and Donald Tankoua and JV Mocon each had 11 markers.
The Lions returned to Manila only last week after a two-week training camp in the US and now tackle a tough schedule with three games in as many days.
“The way we ran today it’s very fast but, can we sustain it? Ito ’yung test eh, we have three games in three days so, let’s see,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
The Lions scored 18 fast break points against 12 by UE.
Jarin, in his second year in charge of the Lions, was also pleased with the performances of new players Potts, Robert Bolick and Nono Noah.
“Right now they get a B+ with the way they played, I’m very happy with the way they played,” said Jarin. “But, you know, they’re good but that’s the danger part there, are you just happy being good? So ’yun ang kailangan natin i-improve, how can they be better.”
Paul Varilla scored 11 points and Philip Manalang added 10 as the Red Warriors dropped to 2-2.
