The Red Lions got 18 points from Van Abatayo as they prevailed over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 83-64.
The Bulldogs held off a late rally by the Far Eastern University Tamaraws to pull off a 65-60 triumph.
Alfred Aroga led the Bulldogs with 25 points, scoring 13 in the first period, while Jay Alejandro had 15.
The Red Lions and the Bulldogs gained a share of the early lead in Group A with the San Sebastian Stags-A.
In the juniors division, the Chiang Kai Shek Blue Dragons-A stopped FEU-FERN, 71-56, with Jeremy James Gallemit and Dale Dy scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The San Beda Red Cubs, led by Mark Anthony Framil and Airon Capolito with 12 and 10 points, turned back CKSC-B, 58-55.
John Alacre hit 23 points for the Letran Squires, who pummeled the Adamson Junior Falcons, 65-47, while San Benildo prevailed over the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, 65-45.
