NICO Abatayo has started to play for National University, joining the list of Red Cubs who have left San Beda to be able to play in the UAAP.
Abatayo said in a brief chat with Spin.ph on Tuesday that NU being a UAAP school was a key factor in his decision to join the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-1 Abatayo played for the Bulldogs in the Philippine-Australia goodwill tournament against San Sebastian at the Philsports Arena. He started and scored one point.
He averaged 11.2 points and a team-best 9.8 rebounds for the Red Cubs in last season’s elimination round and San Beda went on to win its fifth straight NCAA title, beating Mapua in the finals.
Abatayo reunites with Rev Diputado, who played for the Red Cubs two years ago before moving to NU.
