SAN Beda beat University of the Philippines, 63-61, to win the 14th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the Far Eastern University gym.
Eugene Toba had 12 points, including a triple with 14.4 seconds to play, to give the Red Lions the lead after trailing by as many as 10 points in the championship game.
Jeremer Cabanag and Van Abatayo had 13 points each for the Red Lions, San Beda which trailed, 57-47 entering the fourth period.
Ibrahim Outtara’s had a chance to send the game into overtime but his last-gasp basket was disallowed. He finished with 14 points for the Maroons,
The Red Lions beat FEU, 90-67, in the semifinal round with Toba and Clint Doliguez chipping in 26 and 23 points respectively.
The Maroons beat San Beda-B, 77-62, in the other semifinal, with Jun Manzo scoring 30 points.
In the juniors division, Chiang Kai Shek College beat National University, 74-47, in the title game.
Shamasheh Banez had 12 points for the Blue Dragons.
