BASER Amer scored 22 points as defending champion San Beda defeated College of St. Benilde-B 66-60 Saturday in the 9th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open Basketball tournament at the Arellano University gym.
It was the Red Lions’ third win in four matches in Group A. New San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez sat and observed quietly from bench for the second straight game as assistant coach JB Sison called the shots.
Fernandez joined the San Beda bench last week when the Red Lions survived a late University of the Philippines Maroons comeback, 63-61.
The Blazers were ahead 58-55 but the Red Lions took charge in the last four minutes.
An 11-2 windup led by Kyle Pascual and JP Mendoza gave the Red Lions the upperhand.
Meanwhile, Cedric Ablaza scored 21 points as Informatics defeated the Emilio Aguinaldo College, 85-71.
