ANTHONY Semerad provided the spark after a lackadaisical first half by San Beda, scoring 14 of his 19 points in the final two periods in a 71-54 rout of St. Clare College, 71-54, on Monday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions allowed the Saints to take the lead early and the NCAA champions trailed, 26-32, at the half before showing its true form that led to the win — their third in as many games.
San Beda outscored the Saints, 45-22, after surprisingly falling behind by six points.
Ola Adeogun had 14 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks for the Red Lions, who lead Group B.
“This game really showed us character especially now that we have to start strong every game,” said Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez. “We really started flat. It seems that we were surprised with what St. Clare has been doing. But I give credit to St. Clare.”
The Red Lions quickly recovered, using a 10-3 run to get past the Naascu runners-up in the third period.
Marte Gil finished with 24 points for the Saints, coached by Gino Manansala.
