SAINT Jude Catholic School rode on Jared Filipino’s sterling fourth-quarter show to outlast Philippine Cultural College, 60-48, in their do-or-die match and retain its juniors crown in the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Basketball Championships at the Uno High School Gym in Tondo, Manila.
Filipino tallied six of his eight points in the final four minutes to repel PCC’s uprising and complete the team’s remarkable comeback against the top-seeded Seagulls, who advanced to the best-of-three series undefeated.
In all, Filipino, who also starred in the team’s 68-63 win in Game Two along with Charles Sy, finished with 14 points that went well with his six rebounds and four assists.
He got able support from Maynard Yap, who also tallied 14 markers and four rebounds, while Lance Chan and Kendrick Ong combined for 15 points and 19 boards as the Judenites dominated the game from the get-go.
Jharles Uy paced the Seagulls with 12 points, while Kimson Chen was held to 11 points.
Meantime, Makati Gospel Church-New Life Academy trounced Jubilee Christian Academy, 79-65, and retained its Aspirants Division crown last Monday via a two-game sweep of their title series.
New Lifers practically dominated the game after taking the half, 36-25, behind Ike Jordan Lim’s 15 points and six points each from Shane Tan and McNiel Jason Si.
