SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu pulled off a 72-70 win over Ateneo de Manila, ousting its top-seeded sister school at the quarterfinal stage of the NBTC National Finals on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The eighth-ranked Magis Eagles leaned on Eroll Pastor and Wilson Yu’s hot shooting to knock the reigning UAAP junior champions from a tournament they were supposed to win.

Pastor had 21 points and eight rebounds while going 9-of-15 from the field while Yu had 18 points and six rebounds for Ateneo de Cebu in the wire-to-wire victory.

The Magis Eagles led by as many as 17 points but needed to stave off a late Blue Eaglets rally that fizzled out when Jason Credo and Kai Sotto missed attempts in the dying seconds.

Celebration then began for the Ateneo de Cebu contingent in Manila as well as thousands watching the game on live stream following the Magis Eagles’ win.
