BICOL went on a murderous third-quarter assault against Marikina to pull away for an 86-67 win on Wednesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at the Pasig Sports Center.
Ronjay Buenafe came off the bench and went for 20 points, six assists, and three steals as the Volcanoes bounced back to .500 on a 2-2 (win-loss) card.
Jerome Garcia also found his rhythm and went 4-of-8 from downtown to lead Bicol with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Lalata was solid down low with his double-double of 12 points and 12 boards.
The Volcanoes wiggled out of a close 39-34 haltime lead and outscored the Shoemasters, 22-8 in the third frame to jump to a 61-42 lead.
Despite the lopsided score, the final minute still had its share of color with Marikina's JJ Espanola getting ejected for a hit on Bicol's Raffy Gusi, who also hitting the deck after a collision with Justin Padua.
Espanola paced Marikina with 18 points and five assists, while Yves Sazon got 15 points, eight rebounds, and four dimes. But the Shoemasters remained winless through four games.
