ROMMEL Saliente hit a jumper at the buzzer to lift Lyceum Batangas to a thrilling 71-69 victory over Philippine Christian University Dasmariñas in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League on Tuesday at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque.
Lyceum Batangas scored seven unanswered points to move ahead, 69-64, before the PCU-Dasma Dolphins fought back with a Marlon Daitol triple and an Omar Mangadan basket make it 69-69.
But Saliente came through with that gem of a shot at endgame to the disappointment of the Dolphins.
Lowell Castro topscored for LPU-Batangas with 21 points, August Lapasaran scored 15, Christian Alamo added nine markers, while Saliente and John Clarion finished with six points apiece.
Daitol scored 16 for PCU-Dasma, which slipped to 1-6.
The win was LPU-Batangas’ third against three losses, matching Technological Institute of the Philippines, which routed winless St. Joseph College-Bulacan, 87-63.
Bryan Santos poured in 21 points, Papa Ndiaye powered his way to 18 markers and Alex Ramos and Jopet Soriano added 11 points apiece as the Engineers took control in the first 10 minutes, 23-8, and went on to even their card at 3-3.
Eli Leguin exploded with 31 points while Guian Lorzano and Klentoniel Bernal combined for 18 markers but the rest failed to step up and the Bulacan-based side reeled to its sixth straight defeat in the third staging of the tournament backed by CaféFrance, Yakult, Gerry’s Grill, Hapee Toothpaste, MaxSell Power Tool and Tough Mama Home and Kitchen Appliances, Tanduay Athletics and Toyota Motor Philippines.
Diliman, Centro Escolar U and host Olivarez share the lead at 5-1.
