THREE of the most popular basketball players in the country stand a chance at joining forces for the very first time during the 2018 Asian Games.
Terrence Romeo, Kobe Paras, and Ricci Rivero are in line for a team-up in this year’s Asian Games following the announcement by the PBA that the core of TNT will be joining an Alaska player, Gilas cadets, and naturalized player Andray Blatche in the side bound for Jakarta.
PBA chairman Ricky Vargas said Romeo is being strongly considered to form part of the TNT core along with fellow Gilas Pilipinas cagers Jason Castro, Troy Rosario, RR Pogoy.
Vargas said Kelly Williams, Jericho Cruz, and Don Trollano are also being eyed to be part of the KaTropa core for the Asian Games.
For the cadets side, Paras, Rivero, and even Alab Pilipinas cager Bobby Ray Parks were also in the conversation during the PBA board meeting as possible Gilas cadets players that will be joining the TNT core for the Asian Games.
Vargas said the PBA board members were impressed when they looked at the possible players that will composed the Asiad squad.
“When we saw the composition, we said ‘Wow, this is probably very competitive with the likes of Jason, Romeo, Pogoy, Rosario, and Kelly (Williams),’” said Vargas.
The final line-up, however, is still in the hands of Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes, who, according to Vargas, expressed excitement over the selection process.
“Coach Chot looked at the line-up which is still being reviewed especially amongst the people he will be working with the team and he is very happy with it. Coach Chot is excited about this process,” said Vargas.
Vargas said TNT head coach Nash Racela will also definitely have a role in the Asian Games squad.
