ADAMSON continued its mastery over UAAP schools in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, beating the erstwhile unbeaten University of the Philippines, 58-50, on Sunday in San Juan.
Now at 6-1, the Falcons have now assured themselves of a spot in the crossover quarterfinals of the annual preseason tournament.
The Falcons were coming off a huge loss to NCAA team Emilio Aguinaldo College.
"We're just showing flashes of what we can do. We tend to shy away from what we should been doing, sometimes then players let their egos get into the game but it's still a win for us and it's a testament to how we're improving," said Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren.
Jerie Pingoy made a clutch three with 1:34 left to give the Falcons a 54-47 lead over from the Fighting Maroons in a game that was pretty much a defensive struggle throughout.
"Everybody stepped up. We made some big stops in the end that's what we did," Pumaren added.
Robbie Manalang and Sean Manganti paced the Falcons with 11 apiece as Pingoy added eight.
The Falcons limited the Maroons to just 20 of 61 shooting, allowing just one three-pointer in 17 attempts by UP.
Paul Desiderio had 17 points and nine rebounds but made only seven of his 20 shots from the field.
Jun Manzo continued his fine play for UP with 13 points but no other Fighting Maroon scored more than four points as they dropped to 3-1.
