FORMER Philippine Christian University star Rob Sanz is eager to show he can still play at a high level after an abbreviated MPBL stint last year.

Sanz played in local tournaments and overseas leagues before finding his way back in the country when he was picked up by Imus in the league’s inaugural season.

His season however was cut short with a nose injury and that’s when Zamboanga offered to take him in.

“Okay naman ang approach at offer nila, so yun ang kinuha ko. Mabilis din naman yung recovery ko,” he added.

After a fine stint with Bandera before the injury, Sanz believes that he can still contribute to the Valientes – particularly with his leadership and his fire to prove that he can still play.

“Ang maibibigay ko yung passion ko sa paglalaro ko ng basketball. Yung kagustuhan kong manalo. Yung leadership ko. Yun naman ang importante.”

Part of the ‘Big Four’ of the Philippine Christian University that won the NCAA title in 2004, Sanz last played in the PBA for Purefoods back in 2008. The 36-year-old gunner said he never really stopped playing, finding bush leagues here and abroad, and was able to see action for Saigon Heat in the Asean Basketball League.

Sanz was the gunner that played for the PCU squad alongside Jayson Castro, Beau Belga and Gabby Espinas that swept the Perpetual Altas in the NCAA Season 80 championship.

“Hindi naman natigil. Nakakapaglaro parin sa ligang labas, out of town, minsan out of the country, tapos nakapag-ABL din ako,” said Sanz.
