REY Nambatac tried a fresh, new hairstyle to beat the scorching summer heat, but played with the same fiery form at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Friday.
The braid-haired Nambatac carried the bulk of the load for the Knights with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Unfortunately, his new look and old scorching performance was not enough to prevent Letran’s three-game slump after falling to Jose Rizal University, 74-82, in the Filoil Premier Cup.
"Kanina iniisip ko baka malas to, hindi naman (for me)," he said with a chuckle.
Still, Nambatac sees their struggles as a learning experience for the young team from Intramuros.
“Para sa amin we take this in a positive way. Ganun talaga e, nangyayari sa team yun na sobrang struggle," he said.
"Pero alam namin na pag na-overcome namin yun, maganda kalalabasan e so di kami nagpapadala sa frustration. Mino-motivate namin isa't isa."
In time, Nambatac added, the Knights will get in sync and finally carve their first win in the tournament.
"Yung chemistry andun pa rin. Meron lang siguro kaming problema na kailangan iovercome: medyo nagkakahiyaan pa e. Hindi pa masyado magkakakilala," he said.
"Kasi some of our teammates rookie pa e, naiilang pa sa aming mga beterano," he added.
