REV Diputado scored 14 points to lift National University to an 82-58 victory over Perth in the 1st Philippine-Australia Goodwill Basketball Invitational on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Bulldogs closed the tournament with a 4-1 (win-loss) slate and put themselves in a position to win the title by the end of the meet later in the day.
NU will win the crown should Arellano beat San Sebastian due to the winner-over-the-other-rule.
But the Stags will run away with the championship if they defeat the Chiefs.
NU, Arellano, and San Sebastian are all tied on top with similar 3-1 record entering the final day of the tournament.
Coach Eric Altamirano and the Bulldogs are using the invitational to give their younger players exposure to college basketball in preparation for their title defense of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament this season.
After the goodwill invitational, NU will also compete in the Filoil preseason tournament.
Sebastian Salinas totaled 23 points for the visiting Sharks, who finished the tournament winless in five games.
