MALOLOS leaned on Richard Bautista to beat the Chris Baluyot-led Hagonoy, 81-73, in Game One of the Republica Cup LGU division on Wednesday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Bautista scored 20 points to take control of the best-of-three finals of the tournament for LGU employees in the cities and municipalities of the province of Bulacan.
Baluyot, a former San Sebastian standout who last played in the PBA for Air21, finished with 15 points for Hagonoy, the defending champion of the annual tournament organized by the Malolos City Hall led by mayor Christian Natividad.
Game Two is set on Thursday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
In the battle for third, Sta. Maria beat San Jose Del Monte, 83-51, in the opener of the best-of-three series.
