UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas Growling defeated the Arellano University Chiefs, 82-73, in their final game in the FilOil Flying V Premier Cup on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Renzo Subido had 30 points and five assists, against four turnovers as UST wrapped up its stint in the preseason tournament with a 2-6 card.
Marvin Lee added 17 points for the Tigers.
Kenneth Zamora hit a triple to tie the game at 44 in the third frame, and the Tigers ended the quarter strong for a 64-53 lead.
The Tigers shot 27 for 68 from the field for 40 percent, while Arellano shot 47 percent (30 for 64).
"Renzo bailed us out, but throughout the game, masama yung laro eh," said UST coach Aldin Ayo.
"Nanalo, pero not our game," Ayo added.
Levi Dela Cruz led the Chiefs with 16 points, while Michael Canete had 12 points and 10 boards.
