Former SMB coach Todd Purves is back in the Southeast Asian basketball scene as coach of Vietman in the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur. Jerome Ascano

KUALA LUMPUR - Don't be surprised if you see Todd Purves at the basketball competition of the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

After a long absence from the Asian basketball scene, the former San Miguel consultant and de facto coach in the PBA has taken over as head coach of Vietnam in this year's SEA Games.

Purves is no stranger to Southeast Asian basketball as he once guided the Indonesia Warriors to the 2012 Asean Basketball League (ABL) title when they beat the San Miguel Beermen in the finals.

After his stint with the Warriors, Purves was hired to be the consultant of San Miguel in 2014 but had little success before he was replaced by former assistant Leo Austria shortly thereafter.
