ROME Dela Rosa had 16 points, while Ola Adeogun and Art Dela Cruz combined for 26 rebounds as the San Beda Red Lions posted their first win in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup by whipping Jose Rizal University, 67-55, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions won despite committing 22 turnovers -- six more than the Heavy Bombers.
“It was an ugly game,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez. “I’m happy the boys stepped up. Siguro in the next few days, mag-iimprove pa kami.”
Adeogun had 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Dela Cruz grabbed 14 boards in the San Beda victory, coming in a few days after the school lost a nail-biter in its debut game against defending champion National University, 71-73.
Paolo Pontejos had 18 points for JRU, which bounced back in the third period to close in at 45-43 after being held to just eight points in the second quarter.
But San Beda turned the game around in the pivotal fourth when it outscored JRU, 22-12.
Marco Balagtas and Philip Mabulac added 12 points for the Heavy Bombers.
