    Red-hot Sea Lions pull off UCAA cage hat-trick

    MARK Guillen and Marvie Bustos scored big baskets for the defending champion Olivarez College Sea Lions, who crushed the La Salle Dasmarinas Patriots, 78-59, on Wednesday at the Rizal Technological University gymnasium in Mandaluyong.

    Guillen and Bustos hit 12 and 11 points, respectively, as they led the Sea Lions to their third straight win in the 12th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament.

    Bustos struck hardest in the third quarter of their morning game, combining for 11 points with Jay Alquisalas when the Sea Lions broke away from a 34-31 halftime to lead by 11 at the end of the third period, 57-46.

    Patrick Rabe made 14 points for the Patriots, who absorbed their second loss in three outings.

    The Sea Lions shoot for their fourth consecutive triumph when they meet the Manuel L. Quezon University Stallions on Friday in the cagefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.

    Olivarez College earlier came away with a 54-50 win over the Rizal Technological University Blue Thunder last Friday in their opening game, with Guillen showing the way with 16 points.

    Last Monday, the Sea Lions got 18 points from Clarence Singh as they demolished the Philippine Nautical Training Colleges Barracudas, 101-51, for their second straight triumph.

    Mark Doligon and Ruel Manago hit 17 each for the Trinity University of Asia Stallions, who claimed their second straight triumph at the expense of the Patriots, 76-62.

    In the same playdate, the Blue Thunder drew three crucial charities from Renel Montecillo to squeak past the National College of Business and Arts Wildcats, 87-85.
