Ravena takes charge in Unigames title defense

    Oct 17, 2012

KIEFER Ravena banners five-time UAAP men’s champion Ateneo Blue Eagles when they defend their title in the University Games next week in Bacolod City.

Team manager Paolo Trillo said the Eagles will be sending several members of the team that recently swept University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Finals together with a few players from the school’s Team B.

The Eagles won the Unigames championship last year by beating West Negros University in Roxas City.

Ateneo will not be having the services of big man Greg Slaughter, Nico Salva, Justin Chua, and Ryan Buenafe for the tournament starting on October 22. Slaughter, Salva, and Chua had already played out their college eligibility, while Buenafe will be suiting up for Big Chill in the PBA D-League.

Joining Ravena in the team are Juami Tiongson, Nico Elorde, Isaac Lim, Von Pessumal, Gwyne Capacio, Kris Porter, and Gio Babilonia.

Among the notable Team B players in the lineup are Paul Siarot, Joma Adornado, and Tomas Ramos.

Ateneo is using the tournament as part of its early preparation for next season’s UAAP when it will target a sixth straight championship.

The Blue Eagles, however, will be going for the rare feat without coach Norman Black, who had left the team and moved to Talk ‘N Text in the PBA.
