OLSEN Racela has officially stepped down as the coach of the Philippine youth team as he takes on a new challenge as head coach of Petron's ballclub in the PBA.
Racela, 41, tweeted on Tuesday that he is grateful to the national youth program as well as team sponsor Energen for the opportunity to lead the youth basketball team.
“And so goes my journey as head coach of the youth program. I'll forever be grateful to Energen Pilipinas! A new challenge awaits...,” Racela tweeted on his account @thebigOls.
At Petron, Racela is set to become the youngest active coach in the pro league as he teams up with former national coach and Petron coaching consultant Rajko Toroman on the bench.
After he retired from the PBA as a player, Racela handled the youth program for two years starting with a fourth-place finish in the Fiba-Asia Under-16 Championships in Nha Trang, Vietnam in 2011.
The Philippine youth team also recently finished sixth place in the Fiba-Asia Under-18 Championships in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia.
