AT least two networks have expressed their desire to be the new home of Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes shared to Spin.ph that the regional league has received offers from two companies following the expiration of its current deal with its broadcast partner ABS-CBN.
"Meron na kaming proposals from PTV-4. May kausap din ako from One Sports," he said in a short text message.
ABS-CBN has been the MPBL's home since Sen. Manny Pacquiao founded the league in 2018.
It aired all three MPBL seasons, including the postponed 2020 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Cup.
Their current deal, however, expired last March.
A contract renewal also wouldn't be possible as the Congress thumbed down a new franchise for ABS-CBN on June 30.
Still, the MPBL is ready to move on as it has its own production crew to broadcast its games whenever a clearance for contact sports is given.
"Sa ngayon, waiting pa rin kami if and when i-allow ang contact sports to resume," said Duremdes. "Tsaka lang kami mag-set ng dates para i-resume ang Lakan season."
The league has earlier stated that it plans on writing to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases to allow it to resume trainings just like its professional counterparts.
When the MPBL resumes its games with a new TV partner, Duremdes said that the semi-pro league will pick up from its cancelled Game Threes in the Division Finals.
San Juan Knights-Go for Gold and Makati Super Crunch are battling it out in the North Division, while Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife and Basilan Steel-Jumbo Plastic are duelling in the South Division.
The winners of the said games will face off in a best-of-five championship duel in the MPBL Lakan Cup Grand Finals.
