THE Philippine Sports Commission said on Monday that the Ninoy Aquino Stadium will be ready for the Fiba-Asia Championship where it will serve as the secondary venue.
PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia said refurbishing work on the stadium is going full blast and should be finished well ahead of the start of the tournament on August 1.
“We are going full blast in our preparation for Ninoy Aquino Stadium,” said Garcia during his weekly press briefing on Monday. “We will put Ninoy in tip-top shape.”
“The venue will be ready for (the) Fiba-Asia,” Garcia added.
The PSC-maintained stadium has passed Fiba-Asia standards to be the secondary venue after the Mall of Asia Arena and has since been undergoing major renovation work.
It will most likely serve as the venue for a few preliminary games, none involving the top-tier teams.
Garcia said that a new scoreboard will be installed in the next few days while the locker rooms are being refurbished. The stadium will also be given a fresh coat of paint.
