IN the months leading up to the Fiba-Asia championships, Gilas Pilipinas players and coaches have taken to Twitter to air their thoughts and to interact with fans who express their support to the national team.
But come Thursday, netizens should expect a social media blackout for the coaching staff and the entire squad.
Gilas coach Chot Reyes, a prolific tweeter who has more than 54,000 followers on the microblogging site, said the team will go offline beginning on Wednesday as it braces for what he described as "the biggest battle of our lives."
Reyes had in the past taken to the microblogging site to make the major announcements on behalf of the team, from the composition of its initial pool down to the results of its tune-up matches.
So what better way to announce the Twitter blackout than with a tweet?
"All ur words of support fill our hearts w hope. But as we embark on d biggest battle of our lives,we will be offline fr 8/1-11. Pls pray 4 us," said Reyes, through his Twitter account @coachot.
The message has more than 100 retweets and favorites combined as of posting time.
Gilas begins its campaign in Group A of the biennial meet against Saudi Arabia on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
