PRINCE Rivero deflected the credit to Ray Parks after coming up with a huge output for Mandaluyong El Tigre in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Rivero had 18 points against Zamboanga on Saturday on a night when Parks had 15 assists, surpassing the league record of 14 set by Paolo Hubalde of the Valenzuela Classic last conference.
“Siguro nagkakataon lang na open ako at nakikita niya ako,” said Rivero. “Magaling na player si Rayray. He is the smartest player na nakalaro ko. Smart siya. I commend him for that.”
In 20 minutes of play, Rivero converted nine of his 14 attempts from the field, grabbed eight rebounds and tallied two blocks.
The 24-year-old Rivero is playing his first-ever stint in the semi-professional league after playing for La Salle in the UAAP. Rivero said he has already adjusted to the playing style of the MPBL.
“My team is really good. I can adjust with them. They are my family. It’s really fun playing with them,” said Rivero.
The former Archers forward is also pleased to be able to develop his skills along with other professionals.
“Same thing na ginagawa ng mga teammates ko. Sabay sabay kasi kami nagwoworkout. We shoot a lot. We do a lot of extras para ready kami kapag nabigyan kami ng chance to play,” Rivero said.
