JANINE Pontejos and Chack Cabinbin led Philippine Army to its second straight win, beating Quezon, 68-60, on Sunday in the 2022 WNBL season at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Pontejos scored 25 points on 7-of-18 shooting from three-point distance, a day after the Gilas Women mainstay hit 29 points behind five treys in the Lady Battalion’s win over Philippine Navy on Saturday.
Winning debut for Navy
Cabinbin, meanwhile, dished out 10 assists as Philippine Army raised its record to 2-0 to tie Taguig for the top spot in the team standings.
Go For Gold-Philippine Navy nailed its first win of the season, defeating PSI-Philippine Air Force, 68-67.
Trixie Antiquiera had 17 points, while Bernadette Mercado had 16 points including a triple that brought the Lady Sailors up, 66-64. Mercado also nailed two free throws to increase the lead to four.
Karen Columna converted a three but PSI came up empty on the final play with Fria Bernardo and Ana Buendia missing their attempts in the dying seconds.
Kath Araja had 14 points for the Quezon Lady Spartans but they fell to 0-2 to start the season.
Navy’s win spoiled to 20-point effort of Cindy Resultay as the PSI Lady Air Defenders also dropped to 0-2.
