Games Sunday: (Pasig City Sports Center) 3:30 p.m. – Agriculture vs PhilHealth; 5 p.m. – PNP vs GSIS
THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Responders hope to start their title drive on a high note even as the PhilHealth Plus target a memorable debut when they take on separate rivals on Sunday in the 7th UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Led by former University of the East player Ollan Omiping, the Responders collide with the GSIS Furies at 5 p.m. with the former slightly favored over the team that is seeking its first finals appearance in the annual tournament for public servants.
The two-time MVP said they are going for redemption after their title-retention bid last year ended disastrously as they failed to get past the quarterfinal round.
“Kasi nawala kami sa Final 4, gusto naming makabawi at gusto naming andon kami sa Top 4. Yun ang pinaka-goal namin,” said Omiping.
Aside from Omiping, also expected to deliver the goods for the Responders are ABL veteran Harold Sta. Cruz, 6-foot-4 Cyril Santiago, and Rollie Errano.
The PhilHealth Plus, on the other hand, tackle the Agriculture Food Masters at 3:30 p.m. in the event offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
The winners in both matches will forge a three-way tie for the early lead with the Senate Defenders, who launched their title-retention bid with a thrilling 73-70 win over the Philippine International Trading Corporation Global Traders in the opener last Monday.
The 12 participating teams have been divided into two groups with Senate, AFP, PNP, GSIS, DOJ and PITC comprising Group A while two-time champion Judiciary, Malacañang-PSC, Agriculture, NHA, Ombudsman and PhilHealth making up Group B.
