THE Philippine National Police Responders rode on an explosive second quarter performance to a 98-50 win over the GSIS Furies for their fourth straight win in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center.
With Joel de Mesa at the helm, the Responders erased a 20-23 deficit in the first quarter by outscoring the Furies, 28-7, to take a commanding 48-30 lead at halftime.
Making up for the absence of Joshua Alejando, De Mesa tallied 16 points, Ireneo Daglogdog and Anthony Padua chipped 15 points each, while Israel Dickson and Philip Gil Philips had 13 points apiece as the Responders stayed unbeaten in the tournament for public servants.
Meantime, Court Administrator Midas Marquez hit a huge three midway in the second quarter to help power the Judiciary Magis to an 81-41 thumping of the Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission for its third win in four games.
The loss was the third straight for the Kamao who sorely missed the absence of Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.
Joey Yabut, who capped the team’s big second quarter run with a three-point play, led the Magis with 19 points while Marquez added 12.
The Ombudsman Graftbusters improved to 2-1 with a 69-61 victory over the DOJ Boosters in the event offering P1 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
