SENATE came through with a solid defensive effort in the payoff period and stunned reigning titlist Philippine National Police, 68-56, in the 6th UNTV Cup on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
With Jeff Sanders, Marlon Legaspi and Harley Ng anchoring the team’s defense, the Senate Defenders held the usually explosive PNP Responders to just nine points in the fourth while exploding for 17 points.
Sanders, who played briefly in the PBA, scored 22 points on top of seven rebounds in leading Senate to its third win in four games.
Legaspi and Ng tallied 10 points each, and combined for 12 rebounds.
The Defenders also made life miserable for the usually explosive Olan Omiping who was held to just nine points.
