LYCEUM defeated shorthanded Letran, 66-64, on Friday, that put the Pirates in a position to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Dexter Zamora, Guy Mbida, and Rhoel Maconocido each had 12 points for the Pirates, who staved off a late comeback by the Knights to pull of the win.

The Pirates finished the elimination round with a 4-2 win-loss card in Group B, just behind undefeated leaders San Beda and Far Eastern University (5-0).

The top two teams in each group and two ‘wildcard’ squads with the next best records in the entire tournament will move into the quarterfinals.

The Knights played without Kevin Racal and Mark Cruz, who got injured while playing for Blackwater in the PBA D-League on Thursday.
