FAR Eastern University had a rough start under new coach Sean Chambers, going winless through three games in the PinoyLiga Collegiate Cup Season 3.
The Tamaraws lost their first three games including against National University on Saturday, 67-65, at the Paco Arena.
Rough start for Chambers
Chambers, the 59-year-old six-time PBA champion and former Best Import, took over the coaching reins of the Tamaraws from Denok Miranda heading into the new collegiate season.
But local college teams weren’t about to give him the red carpet in his Philippine coaching debut as Lyceum beat FEU during last week’s inaugural, 82-77, before Mapua turned back the Morayta-based school, 73-65.
John Jabonete finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Cyrus Cuenco added 24 for the Cardinals in the win over the Tamaraws.
On Sunday, University of the Philippines collides with Our Lady of Fatima University at 3 p.m., right after Lyceum and Guang Ming College take the floor at 1 p.m. at the Enderun Colleges gym.
PinoyLiga format
Under the league format, the 13 teams were divided into two groups, with the top teams from each bracket advancing outright to the semis.
The three lowest ranked teams are eliminated outright, while teams which ranked 3-6 will play in the quarterfinals, with the two higher-ranked squads enjoying twice-to-beat advantage.
The semifinals and the finals are both knockout games.
