THE Pinoy Youth Dreamers (PYD) won the 2015 International Junior High School 14-and-under basketball championship title after beating JLN Alumni Davidson in the finals, 72-64, at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Jeromewel Merencillo finished with 21 points for PYD and was adjudged the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Brian Kenneth Javier added 20 for the champion team coached by Michael Pascasio. Team founder and director Beaujing Acot said the boys trained for four months for the competition.
Another team from the Philippines in Wang’s Next Gen finished third in the tournament after bowing to JLN Alumni Davidson in the semifinal.
Shortly after winning the title, the PYD team made a courtesy call to Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines (BCAP) president Chito Narvasa, who committed to support the program for the young ones.
The Filipinos’ campaign was also supported by Aqua Safe, Bread Story, Gryphon International, PP Bus Line, JLS, D&G Fitness Gym, and chairman Joselito Dela Merced and Josie Macapagal of Barangay San Antonio, Pasig.
