THE Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) is off to a solid start, hurdling its opening assignments in three age categories on Tuesday in the 24th Asean Seniors Basketball Tournament in Kuching, Malaysia.
The show of force was capped by team’s 48-35 win over Kuala Lumpur in Group B eliminaitons of the 60 years old division that saw former La Salle star Kenneth Yap and ex-MICAA player Zotico Tan flash vintage performance.
Yap, who played briefly in the PBA, completed a double-double performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Tan added six markers, including a jumper that helped ignite a fourth quarter assault.
The team, backed by Rain or Shine, Freego and Ironcon Builders, also got significant numbers from former University of the East star Julio Cruz and Johnny Chua.
In the 50 years old division, Jerry Gonzales exploded for 23 points while Benet Palad added 15 to likewise beat a team from Kuala Lumpur, 62-56.
The team also got decent numbers fromn Andrew Ongteco and Achit Kaw.
With former Ginebra player Benny Cheng, Braulio Lim and Louie Kaw leading the way, the FCVBA also triumphed in the 40-years category with a 76-63 drubbing of Kinsar.
