Philippines begins bid for boys' and girls' titles in Fiba 3x3 U-18 Asia Cup

STANDOUTS from Nazareth School of National University take the lead in hoisting the Philippine flag in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 U18 Asia Cup in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, and Kevin Quiambao will carry the load in the boys' side.

This will be the first time they will compete in the 3x3 setting, although Tamayo, Abadiano, and Fortea have been staples of the youth team in the 5x5 circuit.

Gilas Pilipinas is seeded third in the men's tourney. The Filipinos battle Vietnam at 2 p.m. on Friday before facing off with Turkmenistan at 5 p.m. in Pool C.

Camille Clarin, Angel Surada, Ella Fajardo and Kristine Cayabyab, meanwile, see action in the girls' tourney.

Clarin, Surada and Fajardo were part of the Gilas Pilipinas squad that finished eighth in the 2019 Fiba Under-18 World Cup in Mongolia in June.

The Philippines are seeded eighth in the women's side and plays in Pool A. The Filipinas take on China at 6 p.m. on Thursday, before colliding with host Malaysia at 7:50 p.m.

Both Filipino teams are vying to finish in the top two of their respective groups to progress to the knockout playoffs.
