THE Philippine women’s basketball team defeated Gold Coast, Australia, 77-69, on Sunday to top the second Discovery Women’s Basketball Invitational Jesse Robredo Memorial Cup in Naga City.
Chovi Borja scored 15 points, Joan Grajales had 14 points, and Cindy Resultay chipped in 13 for the Perlas Pilipinas squad, which swept the double-round robin format tournament.
Melissa Jacob also had 10 points for the home team against the Australians, who had three national team players on the roster led by professional cager Bianca Abbott.
The team is preparing for the Fiba-Asia Women’s Championship set October 27 to November 3 in Bangkok.
The Philippines defeated Singapore, 74-52, in the first day of competitions last Thursday before beating Gold Coast, 56-47, the following day.
Perlas Pilipinas repeated over Singapore, 90-21, last Saturday.
