THE Philippines walloped Indonesia, 98-35, on Monday to open its campaign in the South East Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Under-18 Championship on a high note in Sabah, Malaysia.

Jollo Go of Hope Christian High School scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the first half on 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point region as the Filipino youngsters moved a step closer to clinching one of two slots reserved for Southeast Asian in the Fiba-Asia U-18 Championship in Doha, Qatar this August.

Ranbill Tongco of San Beda added 13 points while Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo grabbed 11 rebounds for the Nationals, who went ahead by as many as 51-13 at the half.

The Indonesian U-18 team is coached by current University of San Carlos high school mentor Britt Reroma, a former coach of the multi-titled San Beda juniors team.

The Nationals of coach Jamike Jarin will next face Malaysia on Tuesday night before wrapping up the round robin tournament against Singapore on Wednesday.
