THE Philippines got overwhelmed by mighty United States, 124-64, on Monday in the FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Dubai.
The Americans simply dominated the much smaller Batang Gilas to complete a three-game sweep of the Group A preliminaries.
The turnaround came in the second period when the Americans capped the opening half with a 14-0 run to take a 61-32 lead at the half.
As expected, the taller Americans dominated the boards (66-26) and had more blocks (10-0).
Batang Gilas ended the preliminaries with a 0-3 win-loss record as they go into the classification phase of the tournament.
Jolo Mendoza led Batang Gilas with 19 points, while Jollo Go and Richard Escoto added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Josh Jackson had 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Malik Newman also chipped in 16 for the USA Under-17 squad.
