PERPETUAL claimed solo lead in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament as it delivered its best performance of the season by blowing out Lyceum, 71-39, on Monday at the Filoil EcoOil Center.

Defense was the name of the game for the Junior Altas as they forced 24 turnovers in a game where they led by as many as 40 points in the wire-to-wire win.

Jim Corpuz and Lebron Jhames Daep scored 11 each, while Jan Roluna chipped in 10 points in the victory that pushed last year’s runners-up to 4-1 for the tournament.

No Junior Pirates breached double digits as Zyren Panerio paced the now 0-5 Lyceum with nine points.

San Beda, EAC falter from top; Letran picks up steam

Perpetual’s solo leadership comes from San Beda and EAC-ICA slipping in their respective matches in the five-match game day.

The Red Cubs dropped their second straight game following a 78-65 beating at the hands of the La Salle Greenhills Greenies.

Guillian Quines led the way for the Greenies, with 22 points while accounting for a quarter of the Red Cubs’ 24 turnovers with six steals.

Gian Gomez and Arle Podador, who combined for seven more steals, added 16 and 14 markers respectively.

MJ Valioces paced the Red Cubs with 15 points and eight rebounds but endured the worst of the Greenies’ stingy defense, turning the ball over seven times in the loss.

Francis Dollente was the only other Red Cub that notched double-digit markers as he chipped in 10 points, nine boards, and two blocks but it wasn’t enough as they dropped to 3-2.

On the other hand, defending champions Letran Squires are starting to pick up steam after putting the locks on the EAC-ICA Brigadiers and taking a 73-54 blowout win.

Daniel Padilla and Syrex Silorio led the Squires, scoring 17 and 12, respectively.

Jhuniel Dela Rama wiped the boards clean with his second straight double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian took its second straight win after a 68-58 win over Jose Rizal University.

Penaverde had a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double while Jimenez chipped in 15 points and four blocks to tie the Light Bombers at 2-3.
