PERPETUAL Help downed defending champion San Beda, 60-52, in the opener of the 25th Fr. Martin's Cup Summer League on Sunday at the San Beda Gym in Manila.
With Luke Sese leading the way, Perpetual opened a double-digit lead in the payoff period, 49-39.
Sese had a game-high 15 points, while Tonton Peralta added 11 markers for the Altas.
Arnaud Noah tried to lead the Red Lions to a comeback, cutting the deficit down to 52-45.
But Edgar Charcos hit a floater under the final minute while Sese made key free throws to preserve the win.
Arellano University beat NCAA rival Letran College, 69-62, in the other seniors game.
The Letran Squires opened Juniors action with a bang, annihilating the St. Patrick School of Quezon City, 95-51.
Charles Saure had a game-high 19 points while Ralph Yanes chipped in 15 markers for Letran.
