    Nov 18, 2014

CEBU CITY — NCAA runner-up Arellano University bounced back from a stunning loss with a 77-61 thumping of Cebu champion Southwestern University on Monday in the 2014 Philippine Collegiate Champions League Elite Eight at the Cebu Coliseum.

Stunned by University of the Visayas two days ago, Arellano recovered to score their first win of the tournament.

NCAA Mythical Five member and Most Improved Player Jiovani Jalalon and Levi Hernandez led the Chiefs in a sizzling 15-2 run to pull away.

Jalalon finished with 15 points while Hernandez added 11 markers.

The Chiefs were only up by four, 49-53, when Jalalon and Hernandez sparked the telling run with a midrange jumper and a transition bucket, respectively.

Jalalon and reserve guard Kent Salado took advantage of SWU’s listless transition defense to score unmolested layups to raise their lead to 66-51.

SWU finished their campaign winless in four outings.

The Cobras played without import Landry Sanjo who suffered a facial injury in the game against National University.
