JOSEPH Marquez hit crucial baskets in the endgame as Supremo Lex defeated Foton, 92-88, on Wednesday in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at the Marikina Sports Center.
The 25-year-old Marquez, a former standout of Our Lady of Fatima University, drilled in a three-pointer with 1:18 left to help the Builders reclaim the lead, 87-85, in a well-fought game.
Marquez added a lay-up with 1:02 left in the fourth for an 89-86 Supremo Lex lead.
Marquez finished with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field while grabbing nine rebounds for the Builders, who joined Mighty Sports and Sta. Lucia for the early lead in the team standings.
Mapua cager Mark Brana finished with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Builders, who have now matched their entire win total in the Founder's Cup.
“Maganda ang simula namin. Sana makuha namin ‘yung second game namin against Sta. Lucia. Medyo pahirapan,” said Supremo Lex playing coach Don Villamin.
Mikee Reyes had 26 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists while Levi Hernandez finished with 19 for Foton.
