JEFF Viernes sparked Jumbo Plastic Linoleum to an 83-65 victory over Euro-Med on Wednesday night in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at the Marikina Sports Center.
Viernes scored 20 points, nine in the third quarter that saw the Giants zoom to a 62-49 lead.
James Martinez had 16 points while Stephen Siruma chipped in 13 for Jumbo Plastic, which recovered from an opening day loss to Mighty Sports.
Mighty Sports, Sta. Lucia, and Supremo Lex share the early lead after winning theie opening games.
“Siguro must win sa amin. Ayaw namin ma-down sa 0-2 tapos next game pa namin against Sta. Lucia which is a formidable team. We need this win para makapuwesto na. We played much better on defense at maganda ‘yung ball movement namin ngayon,” said Jumbo Plastic coach Stevenson Tiu.
"Sabi nga niya sa akin, babawi siya," said Tiu of Viernes. "Kasi daw marami siyang crucial turnovers sa last game namin. Gusto niyang bumawi which is dapat talaga dahil isa siya sa mga veterans namin."
No one scored in double figures for Euro-Med, winless in two games, with Alex Almario and Marte Gil scoring just nine points each for the team.
