CHIANG Kai Shek College secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis by topping the elimination round of the SMART-PCABL 3rd Invitational Cup 2016 held recently at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
The Blue Dragons finished the elims tied for first with UAAP rivals National University and Ateneo at 5-1, but gained the top seeding and an automatic semis berth by having the best quotient.
NU, which is using the tournament in preparation for its title-retention bid in the UAAP, settled for No. 2 and will face the University of the East Junior Warriors in the quarters.
The Eaglets, on the other hand, take on the Diliman Preparatory School cagers with hopes of setting up a semis showdown with the NU Bullpups.
Meantime, No. 4 La Salle-Zobel collides with No. 5 University of the Philippines Integrated School in the other quarterfinal pairing of the event presented by Smart through Sports Marketing’s Epok Quimpo, CW Home Depot, Power House, Insular Square (Cebu), Advanced Solutions, Inc., New Pioneer Auto Supply and Hapee Toothpaste.
Quarterfinal matches were being played at presstime.
The winner in the La Salle-Zobel and UPIS game will have a difficult task of beating the Blue Dragons two in a row to advance to the final.
