BARANGAY Ginebra has agreed terms with former Shopinas.com import Zach Graham, giving the Kings a high-scoring player in the small forward position in the season-ending PBA Governors Cup.
Graham played two conferences for the Air21 franchise, averaging of 32.89 points, 11.28 rebounds and 3.47 assists per game. Sources said the import has already agreed to the terms of the contract which is now being ironed out by Ginebra management.
"Nag-agree na siya (Graham) in principle sa Ginebra. So kontrata na lang mula sa Ginebra ang hinihintay, pipirma na siya ng kontrata," said the source who is privy to the negotiations.
"Okay na kila Zach 'yung offer. Done deal na sila, hinihintay na lang yung kontratang galing sa Ginebra," he added.
Ginebra turned to the former University of Mississippi forward after head coach Frankie Lim's original choice, former Talk 'N Text reinforcement Othyus Jeffers, declined the team's offer.
"Masyadong malaki yung hinihingi ng Jeffers, hindi nagkasundo. So kinontak si Graham," said the source.
Former Air21 coach Franz Pumaren, who brought in Graham in his first tour of duty in the PBA, said the import is a wise choice for Ginebra.
"Malakas 'yang Graham. He can score whenever he wants. He has a lot of moves. Bagay 'yan sa kanila," said Pumaren. "Saka maganda dyan may disiplina sa sarili. When he was with us, nasa bahay lang 'yan. I think he is coming off a scoring championship in Mexico."
A Ginebra insider believes that with Graham at small forward, the team can have a balanced starting unit that will have Asian import Sanchar Tungalag at the off guard spot, LA Tenorio at the point, Japeth Aguilar in the power forward post and Greg Slaughter at the center position.
"Malakas ang team ngayon. Imagine those five players starting tapos may Mark Caguioa, Chris Ellis at Joseph Yeo pa," he said.
