AIR21 veteran guard Joseph Yeo has been left both disappointed and perplexed by the Express' disappointing start to a season that started with so much promise.
“Actually, di ko nga alam eh kasi sa akin, okay lang naman matalo eh, pero yung style lang na natatalo kami, laging blowout,” Yeo said after the Express suffered their third straight defeat in the PBA Philippine Cup at the hands of Meralco, 79-112, on Wednesday night.
Not only are the Express losing games, but they're also being beaten by wide margins, having also lost 75-88 to Barako Bull, 75-88, and 100-114 against GlobalPort.
They Said It!
- Air21 guard Joseph Yeo on their string of losses in the ongoing Philippine Cup
Worse, games against the league's elite teams are still to come for a ballclub that went through a massive buildup from the late stage of last season that saw the arrival of Macmac Cardona, Asi Taulava, and Yeo.
Yeo averaged career-highs of 23 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the team’s first two games but struggled against Meralco, going just 3-for-13 from the floor for 10 points.
Taulava and Nino Canaleta fared even worse.
For Yeo, the MCL injury that Cardona suffered in practice has proven to be an ominous sign for the Express.
But with 11 games to go in the 14-game elimination round, Yeo believes the Express still have time to turn things around and avoid another disappointing campaign.
Air21 takes a day off on Thursday before returning to action on Sunday against San Mig at the Mall of Asia Arena.
